We could explain it in the following way: So you won't find information about the future, the upcoming grants and the application process, but actually about the past: what came out of those grants and application processes? NWO has a lot of data on this and with the data portal NWO has set itself the goal of making this data available to the outside world.

On the data portal, various sections are available that all try to contribute to this goal in their own way. The key figures give a brief overview of some of the most important figures from the annual report. Here you can think of, ‘How many projects were funded last year?’ For example, if you are looking for specific projects within a particular topic or instrument, you can look at the individual projects within that topic in the project database. Do you want some more high-over numerical information, for example how the allocation rates were over the years in a particular funding instrument? Then you can see if there is a dashboard available on that topic. Currently, one dashboard is available. Finally, we have an API available.

This portal answers questions about what we have funded and it is important to clarify what this is based on. We as NWO naturally keep information that is relevant to the grant process and to the proper handling of projects. For some information, NWO may not share this information in the interest of the research project or call on which projects were funded. NWO therefore shows on the data portal only figures based on information that may be shared. This means that we cannot show some information or figures because things are either not tracked or not allowed to be published by NWO. So we can meet some requests to show or not show certain things, and other information we do not have or may not be released.
